Alejandro Amenábar torna in patria, nella stupenda Salamanca, per girare il suo nuovo film: Mientras dure la guerra. Nella prestigiosa città universitaria, egli mette in scena il conflitto interiore che l’allora rettore Miguel De Unamuno visse dopo aver sostenuto la rivolta dell’esercito contro il governo repubblicano spagnolo. Con l’inizio dell’epurazione da parte della giunta militare nel 1936, Unamuno non usa il suo status per denunciare le violenze e i soprusi, ma anzi si astiene dal prendere posizione. Tuttavia ben presto dovrà fare i conti con la realtà, con la sua coscienza e anche con i suoi amici e familiari.

“DREAMLAND” DI BRUCE MCDONALD
L’ultimo film di Bruce McDonald rispecchia perfettamente il suo titolo, Dreamland, dal momento che è costruito sulle regole e sulla logica tipica delle situazioni oniriche. Fin da subito ci si immerge in un sogno ad occhi aperti in cui i due personaggi principali si trovano coinvolti in una vicenda criminale. Il gangster dal cuore d’oro e il musicista jazz eroinomane, ambedue interpretati dal versatile Stephen McHattie, condividono inoltre una profonda connessione che porta entrambi ad avere visioni di un probabile futuro o di un passato remoto che chiaramente li riguarda. La vicenda diventa man mano sempre più complessa e intricata, arricchendosi di personaggi così spietati e grotteschi da risultare quasi comici.

The title Dreamland perfectly captures the essence of Bruce McDonald’s latest film, as it revolves around the fundamentals and the basic logic of the dream world. From the very first scenes, the audience gets lost in a daydream in which the two main characters end up being caught in criminal activities. A kind-hearted hitman and a drug-addicted jazz musician, both played by the talented Stephen McHattie, have also a strong connection that causes them visions of their possible future or a remote past that involves them both. The plot becomes more and more complex as the film goes on, introducing a variety of stone-cold and grotesque characters that results comical at times.

“LA GOMERA” DI CORNELIU PORUMBOIU
I fini intenditori a Cannes l’hanno bollato come giochino fine a se stesso, come pasticciaccio brutto o esperimento formale non all’altezza delle sue ambizioni. Meno sonora, più pacata, la schiera degli entusiasti, che alla kermesse francese pure erano presenti e l’hanno applaudito tanto quanto i detrattori lo hanno fischiato. Il nuovo film del regista rumeno un pasticcio, diciamolo subito, lo è per davvero: postmoderno, però, e non ruffiano.
