“JOJO RABBIT” di TAIKA WAITITI

Un doppio legame unisce Taika Waititi a Torino. Dopo What We Do in the Shadows, mockumentary in cui il regista si è divertito a esplorare la quotidianità di un gruppo di vampiri, Waititi torna a Torino per aprire la 37° edizione del Torino Film Festival con Jojo Rabbit, in cui si cimenta con una delle pagine più drammatiche della Storia – la caduta del Terzo Reich –, senza tuttavia rinunciare a un tono ironico e scanzonato. Il film, nato durante la fase di postproduzione di What We Do in the Shadows, ha avuto una lunga gestazione ma non poteva essere realizzato in un momento più adatto.

“BLOOD QUANTUM” DI JEFF BARNABY

Negli Stati Uniti il termine blood quantum serve per identificare i nativi americani dalle altre etnie: se possiedi almeno il 51% di sangue indiano allora sei identificato come nativo Americano, uno strumento che diventa spesso causa di discriminazione razziale in uno dei momenti più bui per la tolleranza e l’inclusione. Il regista Mi’gMaq Jeff Barnaby realizza un film horror in cui lo zombie diventa metafora di una cultura bianca che sta divorando quella dei nativi, portandoli lentamente all’estinzione.

There is a double bond between Taika Waititi and the city of Turin. After the mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows, where the director explored the daily life of a group of vampires, Waititi comes back in town to open the 37thedition of the “Torino Film Festival” with Jojo Rabbit. The movie, focused on one of the most tragic episodes in the history of mankind – the fall of the Third Reich – , is characterized by irony and lighthearted tones. The filmmaker started working on this movie during the post-production of What We Do In The Shadows, but he had to wait for the right time to release it.

“THE BAREFOOT EMPEROR” DI JESSICA WOODWORTH E PETER BROSENS

Dopo King of the Belgians (2016), re Nicolas III (Peter Van den Begin) torna in un sequel non convenzionale diretto da Jessica Woodworth e Peter Brosens, che tornano a parlare della crisi di identità europea e a fare satira sui poteri forti in The Barefoot Emperor. Il sovrano che aveva attraversato l’Europa per cercare di tornare nel suo Belgio, scisso dopo un colpo di stato da parte dai valloni, ora deve confrontarsi con un nuovo surreale spettro: lo scioglimento del parlamento europeo e l’incoronazione di un imperatore della Nova Europa.

After King of the Belgians (2016), King Nicholas III (played by Peter Van den Begin) is back with an unconventional sequel directed by Jessica Woodworth and Peter Brosens, The Barefoot Emperor, which depicts the crisis of identity in Europe and satirizes the major powers. The sovereign, who had crossed Europe in order to go back to Belgium, split by a coup d’état carried out by the Walloons, now has to face a new surreal threat: the disbandment of the European Parliament and the crowning of an emperor of Nova Europa.
